The Word Became Flesh

“ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He

was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. ”

(John 1:1-5) ESV

The above passage gives a description of how the Word became flesh. These verses are a

powerful description that gives a clear picture of the gospel being made alive. The incarnation of Jesus as the Word is distinctive because God entered the world in human form. When we put flesh on the gospel, it is contextualized. It brings the good news to where people can understand it and makes it relevant through our personal testimony.

Many Christ Followers are comfortable learning about Jesus Christ, but are uncomfortable

testifying about Jesus. In the postmodern society, some argue what one’s belief is not open to public scrutiny. When we are evangelistic by word and deed, it means taking a risk and being uncomfortable. The idea of intentionally

sharing one’s faith is frightening to some Christians in our society and foreign to many

Christians. The proclamation of God’s word is at the heart of disciple making. God is at work

in all of our lives and we are called to testify to others about God’s actions. There is power in

sharing the gospel outside of the church wall. Yes, God will work outside of the church

building in the marketplace.

The Word that became flesh provided us with a gospel that is powerful enough to transform us into something we cannot be on our own. If that gospel is not conveyed by Christ Followers, then we fall short. We can make the word become flesh for them by telling what God is doing in our life.

The Value of Releationships

The Value of Relationships

During the past year, you may have experienced relationships that were painful and others that were wonderful and rewarding. When Jesus came to the earth, he demonstrated that he understood both the wonder and the pain of our relationships. He experienced both. He came to be a new relationship; a relationship that will strengthen all of our relationships. Jesus came to show us how to enjoy a new way of relating to God and to each other.

In the beginning, God created you to be in relationship with him and others. A life without relationships may be a simpler life, but it is also an empty life. We really have three relationships: our relationship with God, our relationship with self, and our relationship with others. The path to the greatest possible joy in life is found in the priority that Jesus taught about relationships. Jesus said that the first commandment is to love God and the second commandment is to love others as we love ourselves (Mark 12:29-31).

How we feel about the three relationships comes to expression in Psalm 13: Jesus tells us to place the highest value on relationships.

Me and My House

“As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord”

Joshua 24:15 NIV

Declaring your family under the supremacy of Christ is one of the best declarations you will ever make.

Joshua was a great leader in many ways. As a military leader,

he was second to none on the battlefield. He was a world-class political leader. He was also the spiritual leader of his family. He set the bar high. Before his death, he declared the alignment of his family fully under the Lord God Almighty. “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

Have you declared the supremacy of Christ over your life and your family?

You may never command armies like Joshua, nor conquer enemies like Joshua, nor lead a nation like Joshua, but you can align your life under Christ like Joshua.

To make the family declaration, “we serve the Lord,” is a powerful starting point. If it is in your heart to do so, make declaration today.

Thank God!

In the moments of turmoil,

in the hours of trial,

In the midst of any circumstances,

you can thank God.

Thank Him for His Son,

Thank Him for His forgiveness,

Thank Him for overlooking your weakness,

Thank Him for the promise of eternal life.

Thank God for the opportunity

to be a blessing to others,

to be a friend to the friendless,

to encourage those who have lost hope, and

to cheer up those who are downcast!

You can make a difference.

You can be on the Lord’s side.

You can be a blessing to someone!
